When metal shearing narrow strips, varying degrees of bow, twist and camber will be effident.
Bow and twist are produced by the blade pushing the strip down during the cut, which creates bending forces at the shear point. On slower acting hydarulic metal shears, the strip will fall under the pull of gravity increasing the tendency for the part to bow and twist. The forces which create twist and bow have more time to react on the off-cut strip due to the slower action of the hydraulic shear speed. This why it is often necessary that the shear blade clearance be set properly when the material thickness changes. Most of the shears made today offer some type of shear blade gap adjustment.
