PRESS BRAKE TOOLING STYLES- PDF printable chart

This chart shows the different styles of standard press brake punch and dies used the metal fabricating industry.  The most common press brake style tool would be the 85-90 degree punch and die set.  This set is used to produce 90 degree bends in sheet and plate metal.  General over 10 gauge material the recommendation is to use an 85 degree tool set to compensate for material springback.

The gooseneck press brake tool style is used when there needs to be a relief in the punch to allow room for a return flange when forming two bends.  Please reference the GOOSENECK ALLOWANCE CHART to see the different style of gooseneck punches.  This is a great chart as it shows the dimensions of the return flange for different tools.

The simple method to produce closed or open hemms is to use the Acute press brake tool set to form a 30-40 degree included angle first and then switch tools and use the Flattening tool to close the hem.

The off-set tool is used when an off-set small flange or small dimension dual angles are formed close to each other.  Each off-set tool is design a material thickness and size of the off-set.  You will need to have several sets to use with the different off-sets in a job shop.  The method used with the offset press brake tool is called a bottoming bend.  The resulting finished part will match the tool set used.
